fun friday! around here

I like these snapshots. I delight in the mundane, and I also just love to see how people live, what their world looks like to them. I’m nosy like that.
So I thought today I might try it out. I’ll share a bit of what’s happening in my life, and of course, I’d love to hear what’s up in your world, too.

Do you see that? That, right there, is the end of November in my Playground calendar. I cannot believe it. Time has flown since August 10th, which was my last day at my day job. Now we’re at the end of November, and that makes it seem like it’s flying at twice the speed. (Oh, and I just now realized that this means on December 10th I will have been working for myself full-time for four months. Four months!)

This is what I’m reading at the moment. I read it in tiny chunks, a few pages at a time, because it’s very complex. I could easily read only a paragraph at a time and still have plenty to ponder for days. I don’t think I’m even halfway through yet, and already I’ve found several opportunities to practice what’s in here, both in  my emotional life and in meditation.

I noticed a tickle in my throat on Thursday morning, and it reminded me that I haven’t been making my healthiness-bringing herbal infusions lately. So I brewed a very weak infusion with some mint and chamomile tea, dried rose hips, and dried nettle leaves. It was delicious and refreshing, and it made me feel proud that I was taking care of myself. The next step is figuring out a way to make infusion-making (and drinking) into more of a regular habit.

This: “I do not like Taylor Swift ironically. I like her honestly and completely.” I laughed out loud when I read that, because that’s exactly how I feel. Except that Tim wrote it, lovely gentleman that he is. (Also, it was good to visit Lottie + Doof again after having entirely forgotten to read it for several months. I love Tim’s taste, I love his design, and I love his gentle humor.

Lately, I’ve been sharing cute/funny/relatable things (like this happy-making comic by Michael Leunig) on Facebook, and I’m finding that I rather like doing so. It’s fun to get to know this community in a different way and in a different (online) space.

Last weekend I had a fabulous, wonderful, very windy photo session on the Lower East Side with Nikki, who traveled all the way from Rhode Island for the day (and I was so grateful that she did). I’m putting the finishing touches on the photos right now, and I cannot wait to share them.

We decorated for Christmas last weekend! Now that our tree is up, wrapped in twinkling white lights, turning it on is the first thing I do when I get out of bed in the morning, and the last thing I do before getting in bed at night. Those twinkly lights symbolize all my favorite qualities: wonder, magic, delight, and warmth. Oh, and coziness. You can’t forget about the coziness.

Perhaps even more exciting than the twinkly lights is the fact that Mary had the genius idea to set up a little wintertime village underneath the tree this year (we usually put it on top of a bookshelf or table). So underneath the tree is a bustling, snowy village. I can’t get over the cuteness of it all.
